What’s new in Sunsynk Saver Version 2.1?
- News
Version 2.1 of the SunSynk Saver app offers two new tariffs to choose from, an Away mode for when you're on holiday, and an alert if your inverter drops offline. Here's what each new feature offers, and what's worth knowing before you use it.
In this article:
Octopus Go and Agile Export, now supported
You can now select Octopus Go or Octopus Agile Export as your tariff in Sunsynk Saver, alongside the tariffs already supported. It’s set in your plant’s rate region settings, with no new hardware, and nothing to reinstall.
Octopus Go gives you a low rate for a fixed few hours overnight. Agile Export, on the other hand, moves throughout the day, and can drop close to zero – sometimes lower – when there’s more power on the grid than there is demand for it.
On the Optimised plan, the AI reads your tariff’s price periods and times your battery’s charging and exporting around them, charging when the price is lowest and exporting when it’s highest, rather than working to a fixed schedule. Both tariffs work on the Manual plan too, but you’ll need to set up your charging and exporting schedule yourself and keep an eye on it.
You’ll need an active Octopus Go or Agile Export account for the app to price against correctly. As with any tariff change, it’s worth checking if your postcode is correct first, as the app forecasts your solar against the nearest weather station, and a wrong postcode can mean a wrong forecast.
To switch, go to your plant’s settings in the app and select your tariff under Rate Region.
Away mode: for when you're on holiday
Sunsynk Saver now has an Away mode, designed for when you’ll be away from home for more than two days, such as a holiday or staycation. Switch it on before you go, and the AI moves from your usual home plan to a separate set of instructions built for a house that’s using very little power.
Day to day, the AI learns your home’s patterns – for example, when the kettle’s switched on or when the heating kicks in – and plans your battery usage around them. If it kept learning while you were on holiday, it would treat the empty house as your new routine, then need 3-5 days to relearn your normal patterns once you got back. Away mode keeps those home patterns intact while you’re gone, so the AI can carry on planning efficiently from the day you return. It isn’t needed for shorter spells away, such as a day at work or an evening out, as the AI already plans around these as part of your usual routine.
You can find Away mode in the app under your plant settings. Switch it on and set the dates you’ll be away, and it will switch itself off automatically once those dates have passed, returning to your normal home plan. If you’re back early, simply toggle it off yourself.
A nudge if your inverter drops offline
If your inverter loses its connection, you’ll now receive a push notification, and a reminder will stay on your Plant Overview screen until it reconnects.
This is a monitoring change and there’s nothing for you to configure. All you need to do is make sure notifications are turned on for Sunsynk Saver in your phone’s settings, otherwise you won’t see the alert.
It’s worth noting, that a short drop – such as a quick router restart – may trigger the alert even if the connection comes straight back. In this case, it’s worth checking your router and your inverter’s Wi-Fi connection before assuming there’s a fault.
